The festive period is officially here… the first few days of the Christmas Advent!!

Whilst we are getting busier and busier with the Christmas gift shopping and buying delicious food and treats for the festive period, it can be a chaotic and stressful time for our pets.

Here’s a few suggestions on how to keep your pet safe over the festive season.

Christmas Tree and Decoration Hazards

Aside from the obvious temptations to our pets such as tree lights, tinsel and tree decorations did you know there are many festive plants and flowers that are toxic.  Avoid buying poinsettias, holly, ivy, mistletoe and lilies or keep them well out of reach of your furry friends.

Festive Foods Toxic to Pets

  • Chocolate
  • Mince pies
  • Christmas pudding
  • Onion gravy
  • Alcohol
  • Bones from carcasses

Minimise Stress

Try to stick to your pets usual routine.

Don’t leave them alone for too long. If you are out and about, put some soothing background music or tv on, leave them a cosy blanket and some of their favourite toys to keep them entertained.

If you are having friends over, introduce them slowly to your pet so they don’t get overwhelmed. Let your pet meet your friends and family at their own pace.

….but most of all ENJOY the festivities!!!!!….
